Museum
The idea of creating a digital museum to document traditional ecological knowledge draws inspiration from the pioneering fisheries museum at G.F.H.S.S Nattika Fisheries Museum. As one of the earliest initiatives of its kind, this museum stands as a rich repository of the lifeworlds of fishing communities, preserving both tangible and intangible heritage.
The museum brings together diverse elements of coastal knowledge systems—ranging from traditional fishing gears and crafts to contemporary innovations, archival photographs, and marine organism specimens. It also showcases artistic expressions such as shell crafts and woven artefacts, reflecting the deep cultural connections between communities and the sea.
Building on this foundation, the digital museum extends these efforts into an accessible, evolving platform. It seeks to document, preserve, and share traditional knowledge in new ways, enabling wider engagement while ensuring that the voices, practices, and histories of fishing communities continue to be recognized and valued across generations.
