Paruman - a long bamboo stick fixed to a pamaram to keep the sail upright.

Vanchippaya - the sail cloth that tied the vessel to move with the help of the wind.

Pamaram - Bamboo or other wooden pole to tie the sail in the vessel.

Aniyam – bow, the front part of a vessel.

Amaram   – The stern, the rear of a vessel.

Mukkol - the small pole connecting the stem and the boat.

Thandu kayaru - The rope that connects mukkol to the stem.

Padi - It is a part of an undecked boat that provides seats for the crew and structural rigidity for the hull.

Thandu - a type of row used in vessels.

Thandin Paththi – The flat leaf end of the oar which is immersed in water.

Thandin Kai – Handle of the oar.

Thandin Potta - A piece of wood placed for protection of the Tandin Kaiya when connecting the Mukkol to the Thandin Kai.

Poomachakkalli - a hole for putting a pole of sail in the vessel.

Kuttikallu – Used to keep the boat steady in the water. Today, anchors made of metal are used.
